Are you looking for a room?

Are you looking for affordable housing in Magdeburg and interested in more than just renting a room—would you like to shape your daily life through mutual support and personal interaction?
Through its “WITH each other – FOR each other” initiative, the Magdeburg Studentenwerk connects students and apprentices with people who have spare living space to offer. It’s not just about finding a suitable room. The focus is on living together harmoniously and respectfully, which offers added value for both sides.
Participation in the project is free of charge. However, registering does not automatically mean that we can find you a room. Whether and when a match is possible depends on the available housing options and on whether the expectations of both parties align.

Is this project a good fit for you?

This project might be just right for you if you …

  • if you’re studying or doing an apprenticeship in Magdeburg,
  • are looking for affordable housing,
  • are open to living alongside people of different generations and life situations,
  • are willing to get involved in daily life—depending on your living arrangement—
  • and are interested in a long-term living arrangement.

Two options—you decide which one is right for you

A housing partnership can take many different forms:

  • Living in Exchange for Assistance
You pay no rent—or a significantly reduced amount—and in return, you provide assistance with daily tasks. As a general guideline, you can agree to provide about one hour of assistance per square meter of living space per month. Utility costs are always covered.
  • Affordable Housing Without Assistance
Not every housing partnership has to involve assistance. Landlords can also simply make a room available at an affordable rent.

You decide together exactly what to agree on. Possible forms of support could include, for example, help with shopping, household chores, or gardening; assistance with digital devices; or shared activities. Important: Nursing care, medical care, and intimate activities are expressly excluded.

Here’s How the Placement Process Works

  1. Sign up at
. Fill out our registration form. There, you can tell us a little about yourself, your search for housing, and what you’re looking for.
  2. Let’s get to know you
During a one-on-one conversation, we’ll discuss your needs and answer any questions you may have.
  3. We’re looking for a suitable housing partner
As soon as we have a housing offer that might meet your needs, we’ll get in touch with you.
  4. You’ll get to know each other
. During a face-to-face meeting, you can take your time to figure out if you can imagine living together.
  5. You decide if it’s a good fit
A matchmaking suggestion doesn’t commit you to anything. Only when both sides feel good about it does the initial meeting turn into a living arrangement.
  6. We’re still here to help
Even after a successful placement, we won’t leave you on your own. If you have any questions or concerns, you can still contact the project coordinators.
