Living TOGETHER. Being there FOR one another.
“With Each Other – For Each Other” is a housing partnership project run by the Magdeburg Student Services Organization. It brings together people in the Magdeburg area who want to offer vacant housing and students or trainees who are looking for affordable housing.
The principle is simple: housing is provided on favorable terms. In return, those seeking housing assist their housemates with everyday tasks as mutually agreed upon—for example, with grocery shopping, household chores, gardening, running small errands, or answering questions about computers and technology. Both parties agree individually on what kind of support is appropriate and to what extent it will be provided. Nursing and medical tasks, as well as services of an intimate nature, are expressly excluded.
This creates more than just a tenancy: it’s a living partnership from which both sides can benefit—through mutual support, personal interactions, and a positive living environment.
The Magdeburg Studentenwerk will guide you through the process free of charge, from the initial consultation to finding a suitable housing partnership, and is also available to assist with any questions you may have about living together.
Message from the Project’s Patron
Magdeburg is a city of students and apprentices—and a city where solidarity and community are actively fostered. For young people in particular, affordable housing is a key prerequisite for becoming independent, choosing a college or vocational training program, or starting a career. To make this step possible, we need ideas that bring people together.
That is exactly what the “WITH each other – FOR each other” project by the Magdeburg Student Services Organization does. It matches Magdeburg residents with spare living space with young people looking for affordable (temporary) housing. This not only creates new housing solutions but also fosters personal connections and intergenerational cooperation, making our city even more vibrant. At the same time, it’s a great example of what civic engagement can look like in practice: people get involved, take on responsibility, and actively help shape our city.
I am very pleased to be the patron of this project and wholeheartedly support it. It shows how we, as a city community, embody a culture of welcome and how we can shape our future together—by being there for one another, benefiting from one another, and finding solutions together to the challenges of our time. I’d like to thank everyone who is already part of “WITH each other – FOR each other,” and I invite all Magdeburg residents: Join us and let’s work together to build a city where solidarity is a given!

About Me
My name is Marie Pöhlmann. I was born and raised in Magdeburg and studied social sciences at OVGU.
I have been serving as the coordinator for this project since March 2026 and am responsible for facilitating and providing personal support for the housing partnerships. For me, this project is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to help shape something meaningful in my hometown and to facilitate encounters that truly make a difference.
